It is one month since my first blog post.
I didn’t start with a direction and I still don’t have one. It is all a bit eclectic at the moment.
The first thing that surprised me when I started my blog was time. I really did not anticipate how much time needs to be devoted to keeping a blog active.
Finding the time between full time employment, studying and social commitments has proven to be difficult at times. I do have a bit of a perfectionist streak in me when I write. I also procrastinate (procrastinate is such a strange looking word). This means writing a blog post usually takes longer than it probably should, especially when at the end of it all I realise there is little content.
Today has been a good example of my procrastination.
I woke up early and spent the best part of the day working on an assignment. I have also watched countless YouTube videos, downloaded and played Everybody’s Golf and spent too much time on Facebook. And now I am on WordPress. The assignment is going to have to wait, again.
I really do take my hat off to daily bloggers who manage to fit all the other things in as well.
The second surprise was the WordPress community.
I started with very little knowledge on WordPress. I knew it as a blogging platform but had no idea there was a whole blogging community sitting right behind it, it has been a real pleasant surprise.
In my first blog post I noted that I wasn’t even sure if anybody would pass eyes over any of my blog posts. This was not the reason for starting my blog nor the reason for continuing, but this community adds an extra layer of fun to it.
I am really enjoying it so far.
I do not know why other people start, continue or quit writing blogs. Fun? Money? A release? All of them? But blogging has also allowed me to externalise thoughts into words, many that may have otherwise never have materialised.
Thank you for listening so far.
